Should there be laws against spanking a child?

Critical Issue: Should parents be allowed to hit their kids?

http://www.cnn.com/2011/11/09/world/sweden-punishment-ban/index.html

Synopsis: A kid Ian Swanson moved to Sweeden with his family where they banned hitting children. For Americans and other countires it is normal to hit a child if they cause disrespect. Parents will hit their kids without thinking if they get mad because it is normal. Parents hit their kids because when they were kids they got hit. In Sweeden they banned hitting kids and it is very against the law. They see no reason why a parent shuld hit their kid. That only bad will come by hitting a kid

Analysis: I think that Sweeden's law against hitting kids is nice and that like 30 other countries say that they agree with Sweeden about not hitting a kid. In my opinion though parents should be ale to hit their kid. Obviously, parents cannot abuse their kids, but if a kid disrespects a parent then the kid deserves a nice beating. This can be a difficult topic to debate about, but i strongly think that parents should be able to hit their kid if its in the right manner.  For example if a parent says not to touch the food on the table and after the kid touches it like 10 times after he was told not to. If he tries again the parent can give him  a nice little smack so learn his lesson.

Should Juveniles be tried as adults?

Critical Issue: Should juveniles be tried as adults in felony cases?

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/life-prison-juvenile-offenders-adult-courts/story?id=11129594

Synopsis: At the age of 16 Cameron Wiliams faces up to 110 years in prison for 2nd degree murder and use of a weapon. He is being tried as an adult because he has had a past of being a criminal. He was caught in the middle of a robbery and he shot a police officer. Many juveniles latley are being trialed as an adult. "The Justice Department estimates that about 10 percent of all homicides are committed by juveniles under the age of 18. Nearly every year, the FBI arrests more than 33,000 young adults under the age of 18 for offenses" (Khan).

In the last ten years juvenile crimes have gone way up. Juvenile detention centers are made to change the paths of these kids and to see if they can become better people. Kids are usually only tried as adults if the court or law sees the juvenile as a threat to society.

Analysis: I think depending on what a kid does and how old the kid is he or she should be tried as an adult. Williams for instance was only 15, but come on he shot an officer and was charged for 2nd degree murder, he knows what he did was bad. Yes, I believe in second chances for some people, but once a kid from 15-17 years old does something evil like that he or she knows better."Opponents of trying juveniles in adult courts say more needs to be done for the nation's young criminals, and that the law needs to take into account their psychological development and maturity" (Kahn). I understand some of these kids have rough childhoods, but they are told from day one not to do horrible things.

College Athletes

Critical Issue: Should college football/basketball players get paid?

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/01/magazine/lets-start-paying-college-athletes.html?pagewanted=all

http://elitedaily.com/elite/2012/college-athletes-paid/

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/6778847/college-athletes-deserve-paid

Synopsis: In an article by Joe Nocera from the New York Times he talks about one of the biggest issues in sports right now: Whether or not college athletes should get paid. Men's college football and baketball players should be paid because they produce over 6 billion dollars in revenue annually. No other athletes should be aid because they do not produce enough money to get paid. Coaches are paid in millions and an 11 billion dollar deal for 14 years for television rights for March Madness was just done last year. While the players get nothing, the NCAA makes a lot of money. The system NCAA has created right now is just a way for college athletes to violate them, because they get nothing out of the rules. They work hard, and deserve to be paid.

Analysis: After reading many articles on whether or not college athletes should be paid or not I decided I agree that just men's college football and baketball players should get paid. Other sports do not produce enough money to be even considered to get paid. While football and basketball players produce billions of dollars. Lately, many college athletes have been getting punished for taking money from people. Two big examples are the miami ponzi scheme and the Ohio State University players taking money. These college athletes make billions and have really hard work ethic. They can practice for 50 hours a week and thousands of fans come watch them every week. People are wearing their jerseys and the players see this.
