Synopsis: In an article by Joe Nocera from the New York Times he talks about one of the biggest issues in sports right now: Whether or not college athletes should get paid. Men's college football and baketball players should be paid because they produce over 6 billion dollars in revenue annually. No other athletes should be aid because they do not produce enough money to get paid. Coaches are paid in millions and an 11 billion dollar deal for 14 years for television rights for March Madness was just done last year. While the players get nothing, the NCAA makes a lot of money. The system NCAA has created right now is just a way for college athletes to violate them, because they get nothing out of the rules. They work hard, and deserve to be paid.
Analysis: After reading many articles on whether or not college athletes should be paid or not I decided I agree that just men's college football and baketball players should get paid. Other sports do not produce enough money to be even considered to get paid. While football and basketball players produce billions of dollars. Lately, many college athletes have been getting punished for taking money from people. Two big examples are the miami ponzi scheme and the Ohio State University players taking money. These college athletes make billions and have really hard work ethic. They can practice for 50 hours a week and thousands of fans come watch them every week. People are wearing their jerseys and the players see this.

I think they should get paid because being in a college sport is a full time job. It makes it first off hard to complete your studdies but makes it impossible to have a job on the side. College athletes in major sports need to get paid.
ReplyDeleteI like it! it has good word choice and i actually read it even though it's about sports! very interesting!
ReplyDeleteI agree
ReplyDeleteI mean I know they work really hard..but they also don't have to pay for college...and most of these colleges theses days are pretty expensive. I feel like if they started getting paid less real talent would come through and more people just in it for the money. Maybe if their was a system of giving them the money once they were graduated, it might work out because it would weed out the undetermined ones.
ReplyDeleteI agree that college players should get paid, because they put a lot into what they do for their school to look good, so why not reward them. It doesn't have to be as much as professionals but they should still get paid!!!
ReplyDeleteI think they should get paid as well.
ReplyDeleteI disagree, college athletes go to college for free the dont need to get paid at the time. they have food, dorms, clothes. transportation and they are there to help their team when if this happened what the point of having pros also this will be just way tooo much money. do you think those who participate in D2 or D3 sports should get paid too. you shouldn't be paid you didn't sign a contract they invited you to come to their school you didnt have to come
ReplyDeleteThe issue has been in the spot light of colliegiate sports for a very long time. Although it appears controversial, there may be a time and a place paying our student athtles; afterall, these athletes make oodles of money for their schools.
ReplyDeleteI beleive they should get scholarships, but not seprate from that. Now a days you see many athletes making alot more than they should. It is an issue if they should get paid in college or not. I think they should keep up with their studies in order to keep the scholarship. People work very hard academically for scholarships and for someone in sports to get it form playing on a team i believe is unfair. So If they earn it, then give them the scholarship. But they must exceed in academics, whats the point of going to college then?
